The IRS will be accepting applications for entry level Special Agents and Tax Compliance Officers
February 22, 2013
The IRS will be accepting applications for entry level Special Agents and Tax Compliance Officers in March. MSCPA student members are receiving advance notice to give them a head start in taking the preliminary steps so they can submit an application as soon as the postings become official. Positions require US citizenship and a BS or MS degree in accounting. Graduating seniors may apply.
As an IRS CI Special Agent, you will combine your accounting skills with law enforcement skills to investigate financial crimes. Special Agents are duly sworn law enforcement officers who are trained to "follow the money." No matter what the source, all income earned, both legal and illegal, has the potential of becoming involved in crimes which fall within the investigative jurisdiction of the IRS Criminal Investigation. Because of the expertise required to conduct these complex financial investigations, IRS Special Agents are considered the premier financial investigators for the Federal Government.
TAX COMPLIANCE OFFICERS plan and conduct examinations and investigations of individual and business taxpayers within the Small Business/Self Employment Division within the IRS. They analyze taxpayers’ financial condition and related operations. They also provide advice regarding tax law and tax-related accounting, and serve the nation by becoming the single point of contact to resolve both general and technical customer issues.
